Village Council will meet Monday evening, October 28 at 7:30 pm in Council Chambers at Village Hall.
I think traffic engineers are often so focused on cars that common sense goes out the window and anyone outside a vehicle is endangered. Here they’ve completely obscured the crosswalk entrance by placing this giant highway-sized sign on southbound Main Street. Be careful out there!
Beautiful day for a father-and-son bike ride down the bridle trail as far as the river. This is enough for him right now, but I’m looking forward to the day when the Solon connection is complete and we can include a stop at Mitchell’s Homemade.
Village Council will meet Monday evening, October 14 25 at 7:30 pm in Council Chambers at Village Hall.
The Parks Commission met Wednesday morning to review a couple of Jaycees events and hear updates on park projects, including yet another delay at Grove Hill.
The Chagrin Valley Jaycees plan once again to host Oktubafest on Saturday, October 26 in Triangle park. Deck the Falls will return on December 7 and 14 from 11:00 to 3:00. We voted to recommend both events and they will be presented to Council on October 14.
I again suggested that we add benches along the northeast side so there is somewhere to sit with sight lines of the play area for older kids. Rob Jamieson confirmed that those will be added to the budget for 2025. John Brockway mentioned that the turtle sculpture and an additional trash can will return to the east end as soon as a concrete pad can be poured, possibly this year but more likely next.
So glad to see this proper sidewalk and curb going in at the future home of Two Café & Boutique, replacing over a hundred feet of solid pavement and driveway apron. The fewer places that cars and people can occupy the same space, the better. I know of a couple other spots in town that could use the same treatment.
Village Council will meet Monday evening, September 23 at 7:30 pm in Council Chambers at Village Hall.
Chagrin Falls will be featured this week on the PBS show City Centric.
It will air Friday at 8:30 pm and again Saturday at 1:30 am and 6:00 pm on WNEO 45.1 / WEAO 49.1, and stream live at pbswesternreserve.org/live-tv. They will be featuring several local organizations and establishments using the tagline “Explore a timeless village that thrives on creativity”.
The school bus is disappearing. Welcome to the era of the school pickup line.
What a depressing milestone: most kids are now driven to and from school by private vehicles. So glad I live in a place where both my kids can now walk, bike, or scooter to school. I’m specially thankful for the many crossing guards who volunteer rain or shine to help make sure they get there safely.
Interested in becoming a crossing guard? Please get in touch!
Village Council will meet Monday evening, September 9 at 7:30 pm in Council Chambers at Village Hall.
The Parks Commission met Wednesday morning to talk geese, surveys, pickleball, and weeds.
The Jaycees plan to return to Triangle Park and North Franklin Street for Food Trucks by the Falls on September 28 from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. For the last few years this event has been held on the day of the Community Yard Sale, and the Parks Commission voted to recommend it again to Council which I will do on September 9th.

We looked at an extension to the village contract with Kimble Recycling & Waste Disposal, a contract amendment to address cost increases to the Police and Fire Renovation project, and discussed plans to conduct a community-wide survey in 2025.
The Facilities & Services Committee will meet Monday at 6:45 pm and Village Council will start 7:30 pm. In both meeting we’ll be looking at an extension to the village contract with Kimble Recycling & Waste Disposal, a contract amendment to address cost increases to the Police and Fire Renovation project. The commission voted to recommend the Chagrin Documentary Film Festival request to use Triangle Park as in past years.
…are still a problem. Rob says the village is looking into services to deal with them.
I’ve shared my notes from last night’s Safety Committee meeting where we talked about a number of changes we could make to improve the downtown streetscape.
Village Council gathered Monday evening for a quick and fairly uneventful meeting.
The Safety Committee met Monday evening and reviewed a wide range of design changes we could make to improve the pedestrian experience in our downtown.
Although I was the only member present I was joined by Council members Angie DeBernardo, Don Gutierrez, and Andrew Rockey, CAO Rob Jamieson, Chief of Police Amber Dacek, and Paul Ciupa and Aleksa Cyvas from CT Consultants (the village engineering firm).
I called this meeting to continue the work that we started at the end of 2023, when council submitted a list of Requests for CT Consultants. We asked for guidance regarding a variety of changes we could implement to make our downtown a safer and more welcoming place for pedestrians.
Stopped by Grove Hill Park to check out the repairs to the stairs. Several of the treads were broken and have been replaced with new stone.
Watch as the crew from Great Lakes Construction installs the second of thirteen cement arches that will form the southern barrel of Chagrin Falls’ North Main Street Bridge.
Stop signs are coming to East Orange Street and North Street at Mill Street.
Traffic Notice: New 3-way stop at Orange, North, Mill Streets
Disappointing news from the Grove Hill Park Commission meeting this morning. With no bids solicited and no contract awarded, the half-finished projects from 2023 won’t even be able to start until the second half of this year, putting the construction of the actual park at risk.

The Grove Hill Park Commission met this morning, where it was announced by Chair Nancy Rogoff that bids for the remaining work to repair the Cottage Street retaining wall and planting to stabilize the adjacent hillsides would not be released until June of this year. Plans for this work were developed, approved, and budgeted for 2023. Part of the wall repair work was completed in the fall of 2023, until it stopped due to the weather.
