Parks Commission December Meeting

The Parks Commission met for the last time in 2024, reviewed the year’s accomplisments, and talked about the future of Chagrin’s parks.

Menorah Lighting and Display

Chabad Jewish Center has again requested to display a menorah from December 18 to January 8, in Triangle Park this year due to the temporary closure of Bell Street Park. They’re also planning a Menorah at the Falls event on December 29 from 4:00 to 5:00 pm. Both applications were unanimously recommended to Council.

Grove Hill Park

Rob announced that a contract for planting has been awarded to Angelotta Landscape Associates. A pre-construction meeting is scheduled for this month, with the work to begin in April and be completed no later than May 16, 2025.

2024 Highlights

  • A new playground was created in Riverside Park, and a new water fountain and benches were installed
  • Some of the old, wooden picnic table were replaced with black, metal ones
  • New shrubs and plants were added to Triangle Park
  • The south side of Franklin Park was re-graded to make it easier to access
  • The baseball facilities at River Run and Founders Field were upgraded with dugout covers, concrete pads, new fencing, and dirt and equipment storage areas
  • A new pea gravel play area was added to the dog park at River Run
  • Dying pine trees were removed from Founders Field
  • And many more smaller improvements we made throughout the parks…

2025 Goals

  • Complete Grove Hill Park landscaping, and add a wrough-iron railing to the stairs
  • Finish the baseball dugout covers and install equipment storage
  • Design and build a new paviliion in Riverside Park
  • Stabilize the hillside under the stairs to the falls
  • Continue replacing wooden picnic table with black, metal ones

And lastly, although we usually meet on the first Wednesday of the month, the next Parks Commission meeting will be Thursday, January 2 at 8:30 am due to the New Year’s Day holiday.
