Parks Commission September Meeting

The Parks Commission met Wednesday morning to talk geese, surveys, pickleball, and weeds.

Food Trucks by the Falls

The Jaycees plan to return to Triangle Park and North Franklin Street for Food Trucks by the Falls on September 28 from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. For the last few years this event has been held on the day of the Community Yard Sale, and the Parks Commission voted to recommend it again to Council which I will do on September 9th.

Strategic Plan Updates

Council’s Facilities & Services Committee is requesting money in the 2025 budget to hire a firm and conduct a community survey. Unlike in past years – when the budget is not prepared until after the new year – the administration has been asked to present the budget to council for approval before the holidays, so it can be approved and in effect on January first. I’m hoping that happens, so the process to select the firm that will conduct the survey can start early in the year and we have the results sooner.

Riverside Park Playground

The mismatched portion of the rubberized surface at the western end of the playground has been replaced and will be off-limits for a few days while it cures.

I asked the Mark Nelson from the Service Department if they could look at adding some benches along the northeast side of the playground.

River Run Park

We discussed the state of the pickleball equipment (not good) and the possibility of constructing a real court. The service department is looking into adding a self-closing mechanism to the dog park gates.

Grove Hill Park

The Request for Quotation for the first round of landscape planting – planned for this autumn – has not been released.

Founders Field

Pouring the cement dugout floors and driveway apron are next on the Service Department’s projects list.

Ben King Arboretum

After being contacted by a resident about the poor condition of the arboretum, Anne visited and found that it is being overtaken by weeds (Devil’s Beggarticks).
