Village Council Early April Meeting

Village Council met last night and voted on a couple of issue impacting Riverside Park.

But first, we approved two park events, for Chagrin Valley Little Theatre’s Shakespeare By the Falls (August 12 & 13) and Chagrin Documentary Film Fest (October 3 - 8).

Riverside Park Pavilion

As I’ve mentioned before, the old skating shelter in Riverside Park has reached the end of its useful life. Council voted to approve its demolition in time for Blossom and Art By The Falls.

At our most recent meeting the Parks Commission voted to recommend a location for a new pavilion, similar to the skating shelter but oriented to align with the park borders and set back some from the field.

I passed along the Commission’s recommendation but I also proposed an alternative; that for the time being we do nothing at all. It felt like we were rushing towards a replacement for no real reason, and we have at least three other projects – the final phases of the brick walk replacement, the playground, and the Main Street Bridge project – underway or starting soon in Riverside Park. I think it makes sense to wait until these are farther along before committing to anything new. No vote was required, but it seemed like the majority of council agreed, and we decided to bring the issue back up in October.

Riverside Park Playground

In playground news, we have an updated design based on our working session with DWA Recreation that adds an additional bay for an all-ability swing and an inclusive whirl. We voted to request final pricing based on this design, and settled on a color scheme for the equipment. (The image below is for color only, and does not represent the selected equipment.)
