Village Council Early October Meeting
Village Council convened Monday evening for our regularly scheduled meeting, where we heard updates on the 2025 budget, Grove Hill Park, upcoming park events, the Vincent Street stabilization project, and more.
2025 Budget
The Finance Director is preparing a rough draft of the 2025 budget – it should be ready by the end of the week. The Administration & Finance Committee has scheduled a meeting to review it on October 28 at 6:30 pm. The entire council will review it at a Committee of the Whole meeting to be scheduled in early November.
Grove Hill Park
Erinn is waiting on Rob to schedule an on-site Facilities & Services Committee meeting for a walk-thru of the property.
Events
Oktubafest (October 26 from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm) and Deck the Falls (December 7th & 14th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm) were approved unanimously for Triangle Park.
The End of History?
Rogoff announced a Planning & Zoning Commission meeting where they’ll discuss changes to the definition of Historically Significant Property to exclude anything built after 1940, instead of the current 50 to 100 years.
Vincent Street
If you’ve been on Vincent Street lately you’ve probably notices that the section between American and Bell is sliding into the river. We passed legislation to engage CT Consultants for the engineering work to stabilize the hillside and repair the road. I asked about the overall goals for the project, since that stretch is part of the River Walk Loop Trail and includes an intersection with poor visibility at Cleveland Street. I think it’s important for the design of this road to include walking access that is separated from vehicles. Tomko confirmed that they would be looking at all possibilities, up to and including making Vincent Street one-way.
